U.S. Mail collection mailbox, introduced in the 1940s. Known as a “snout box” due to its recessed mail slot under the overhanging top, this all-metal mailbox features a squared, flat-panel body with curved sides and hand-painted “U.S. MAIL” lettering. These boxes were used exclusively for public mail collection and were a common sight on American street corners from the 1940s through the 1960s, before the modern arched-top design became standard. Perfect for period street scenes in films and TV shows set from the 1940s to the 1960s.
